Army veteran Terrance Finken says he opened his heart and home to a couple who claimed to be in need. Turns out, he says he was robbed by them of more than $30,000.
He says they also stole his truck.
"How good could you be to people and they turn around and stab you in the back?", he says.
Back on January 7th, he says Bryan Moore and Meranda Stidham, who'd been staying with him, stole from him while he was away at his daughter's house. She had just gotten the news she has cancer.
"I went over there at 4, I was back at 6. While I was gone, that's when they found the key to the safe, got in the safe, stole money out of the safe and lock box," he says.
Finken says he first met Moore in the fall after he'd done some work for him.
He says Moore returned in January with his wife and they needed a place to stay.
Finken's wife passed away from cancer two years ago. He says he figured he could help the young couple and have some company too.
"I'm alone here since my wife died. I thought, since my wife died, maybe they can stay upstairs. I bought 'em clothes, I bought 'em shoes. I even bought 'em a TV for the room upstairs," he says.
Hazel Park police say warrants have been issued for both Moore and Stidham for unlawful driving away of a vehicle and larceny of more than $20,000. Both are felonies.
Investigators believe Moore and Stidham may no longer be in Michigan.
Finken's stolen truck is a dark blue 2006 Chevrolet with a license plate of DC 24398.
Police have shared the stolen truck and suspect information with law enforcement across the country.
"You just can't be good to some people, or they got no conscience. I don't think I'll get the money back, but I'd just like to see them get caught and pay for what they did," he says.
