If you've ever wanted to be part of an attempt for a Guinness World Record attempt, then an event coming to Detroit in a couple weeks is just for you.

Metro Detroit-based company UglyChristmasSweater.com is hoping to break the world record for largest gathering of people wearing holiday sweaters.

It's happening on Dec. 9 at Beacon Park in downtown Detroit. People who want to be part of the count will have to be at the corner of Cass and Grand River at 6:30 p.m. to be in place for the official count.

UglyChristmasSweater.com will also be on hand selling an assortment of holiday sweaters to anyone needing approved attire.

The original record was set at the Kansas vs. Montana basketball game on Dec. 19, 2015 when 3,473 people wore holiday sweaters.

To be counted, the sweaters must clearly display Christmas or Hanukkah themes. All green or red sweaters won't count.

Immediately following the attempt, there will be a silent disco at the Winter Lodge tent with Channel 955, WJLB and WNIC will spin three genres of music through headphones on three separate channels.
