LANSING, Mich. — Shannon Schlegel is the Owner / Attorney of Shannon L.W. Schlegel, PLLC. She graduated with her B.A. in Sociology with a Minor in Women’s Studies and Math Perspectives from U.C. San Diego. She earned her J.D. from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School.
Shannon has over 19 years of experience serving Michigan in Child Welfare, Criminal cases, Civil Litigation, Estate Planning, Family Law, and Small Business. In addition to maintaining her private practice, Shannon contracts with the State of Michigan serving as a Special Prosecutor in child abuse and neglect cases in 8 counties across Mid-Michigan. She serves as a Mediator in domestic cases and serves as a Case Evaluator for civil litigation cases. More recently, Shannon has contracted with MSU to serve as a Claimant Representative in relational violence and sexual misconduct hearings.
Shannon is an active member of the legal community, having served as President of the Clinton County Bar Association and President of the Young Lawyers Section of the Ingham County Bar Association. In 2017 she was appointed by former Governor Rick Snyder to the Trial Court Funding Commission, where she was appointed as the Chair of her work group by her peers.
Shannon also has a long standing history of serving in local government. She served on the DeWitt Township Zoning Board of Appeals, the Clinton County Agriculture Preservation Board and serves on the Clinton County Planning Commission , where she has served as the Chair for the last 10 years.
Shannon’s strong commitment to serving in community based programs is demonstrated by her service in the Zonta Club of East Lansing, St. Johns Kiwanis Club, DeWitt Lions Club and as the Secretary for the House of Promise (a rehabilitation home for victims of human trafficking). She is also a member of the Clinton County Farm Bureau, DeWitt Area Chamber of Commerce and the Clinton County Chamber of Commerce.
