A woman who was at a 7-Eleven in Westland says an armed robber forced her to help the clerk hand over items before the suspect shot a clerk.
According to the victim, she was inside buying a pop around 5:15 a.m. Saturday when a man came charging in, pulled a backpack off his shoulder and fired a gun into the air.
She tells 7 Action News the suspect then forced her behind the counter because the clerk was moving too slow. He wanted Newport cigarettes and he forced her to put them in his bag.
When the owner came out of the back room, she ran to hide in the cooler and heard several shots before the suspect ran out.
She then ran out of the store to check on her dog before running back in to help the clerk who was shot. We're told the clerk was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery, but is doing well.
