The increased demand for heroin has dealers cutting their stash with other drugs, putting users in more danger than ever.
Right now, the U.S. Marshals are searching for a Detroit man they say is responsible for deaths across Michigan. They say Amacio Alexander has no regard for human life selling Fentanyl laced heroin creating lethal combination.
“He’s a killer, he’s selling poison and anybody who uses it or anybody that has family that uses it can die,” Deputy Rob Watson with the U.S. Marshals said.
He’s leading the hunt for Alexander and sees the devastation he leaves in his path.
“Police departments throughout Michigan have been noticing a large spike in heroin related deaths, basically this heroin was traced back to the group that Mr. Alexander was a part of,” Watson said.
They call themselves the Polo Gang, 13 members were indicted after a DEA investigation led to a raid in Warren linking the men to deadly Fentanyl laced heroin.
Alexander was arrested, let out on bond then took off.
“He’s absolutely continuing to do this, it’s a method of support, it’s a way to get money,” Watson said. “We have not identified any type of legitimate job he has, so we believe he’s furthering his fugitive existence through the drug trade.”
Watson believes Alexander is still in Metro Detroit selling to users young and old who are buying this deadly heroin thinking it’s more potent.
“This person is not selling these drugs in a back alley,” Watson said. “These drugs are being sold in church parking lots, in your neighbor’s front yard, anywhere.”
It’s creating new fears of who will be next.
“We’re looking for tips so we can get this guy off the street so that more lives can be saved,” Watson said.
Alexander is 39-years-old is 5’10,” 200 pounds and should be considered armed and dangerous.
“From the Detroit area, he’s been arrested numerous times, (has a) long criminal history,” Watson said. “He is a person who makes his living from people dying.”
