A 17-month-old girl from Saline was able to hear for the first time on Jan. 28, 2020.
Two months after she was born, it was found that Emma Chadwell had mild/moderate hearing loss and she received hearing aids.
After a CT scan, her parents found out that Emma had mondini dysplasia, and abnormality of the inner ear, and EVA, enlarged vestibular aqueduct. She would likely become profoundly deaf very quickly, doctors said.
The Chadwell family opted for Emma to receive cochlear implants, which she did in January.
