Time is running out for thousands of people told to dig up their old pets buried at the Heavenly Acres Pet Cemetery in Howell – or risk losing them forever.

The pet cemetery lease ran out, and a new business is moving in with a new plan for the land. But there's a new fight now.

We're told a number of people are expected to show up at a court hearing happening today, where owners will fight for more time to exhume their pets.

The pet cemetery’s lease expired back in September and now Heavenly Acres Pet Cemetery is set to become a new business. Essentially, if you don’t exhume your pet, you lose them.

Today, the court hearing will be held in Brighton and things have gotten heated in the past.

We have reached out to the company previously for comment about this story. They’ve declined to react publicly to date.

We may hear more from them today, or more likely from their lawyers inside the courtroom.
