A new study is looking at vehicle longevity across the country, and seeing the top vehicles that will make it to 200,000 miles or longer traveled. The iSeeCars study found the full-size SUVs are most likely to reach the 200K mile mark.
In all, the website analyzed nearly 14 million cars sold in 2018 to determine which models had the highest percentage. The top 14 models each have at least 2.2 percent of their vehicles reach that mileage, which is almost three times the overall average, and include a mix of types.
The longest--lasting cars to reach 200K miles are below with the percentage of cars over the mark.
- Toyota Sequoia - 7.4 percent
- Chevrolet Suburban - 5 percent
- Ford Expedition - 5 percent
- GMC Yukon XL - 4 percent
- Toyota 4Runner - 3.9 percent
- Chevrolet Tahoe - 3.8 percent
- Toyota Highlander Hybrid - 3.1 percent
- Honda Ridgeline - 3 percent
- GMC Yukon - 2.8 percent
- Toyota Tacoma - 2.6 percent
- Toyota Tundra - 2.6 percent
- Toyota Avalon - 2.5 percent
- Honda Odyssey - 2.5 percent
- Lincoln Navigator - 2.2 percent
“With the right maintenance and care, today’s vehicles have the potential to reach 200,000 miles,” said iSeeCars CEO Phong Ly. “While large SUVs and pickup trucks appear most often on the list, those looking for sedans and minivans can also find a vehicle that is proven to be a high-mileage hauler.”
When it comes to SUVs, there are six SUVs that weren't included on the top 14 list, including the Honda Pilot, Dodge Durango, Cadillac Escalade, Acura MDX, Toyota Highlander and Cadillac Escalade ESV.
Other pickup trucks not on the top 14 but above average include the Chevy Silverado and Ford F-150. Several passenger cars also stay above average, including the Toyota Sienna, Toyota Prius, Chevy Impala, Ford Taurus, Toyota Camry, Toyota Camry Hybrid and the Honda Civic.
Toyota is the automaker that is most-likely to reach 200,000 miles with 1.7 percent of their vehicles reaching that mark. That's followed by Honda, GMC, Chevryolet, RAM and Ford all above the average of .8 percent.
Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo come in third for the metro area with the most vehicles over 200,000 miles, with 2.1 percent.
The city of Detroit also has 7.5 percent of cars over 200,000 miles, and the longest-lasting model is the Chevrolet Suburban.
