When you think about a romantic evening it doesn't usually involve cracking a can of wine, but this new trend generated over $15 million in vino sales in 2016. Can the can actually be as good as the bottle? Teresa Strasser and wine expert Wasam Kawa are testing out four popular canned wine options.
1. Trader Joe’s – Simpler Wines
This one sold out quickly after being introduced, but it's back in stock. The four packs are a summer drinking steal at $3.99. There's no oak on it so it's going to be lean and zippy. It's not bad. That's a dollar well spent!
2. We Are California – Red Blends
This red blend from Sonoma County can be found for around $2.99 a can. It’s fairly simple and doesn't have a lot going on. This one doesn't suck and we’ll leave it at that.
3. Underwood – Pinot Gris
This one equals half a bottle of wine in each can and will run you around $6.99. It has nice fruit flavors and is definitely worth checking out.
4. House Wine – Rose
We can't forget the most popular wine people are drinking – rose! This one is $5.99 a can and has enough for two glasses of wine. This is a lovely blend of Grenache and Syrah and is actually delicious. The finish is simple and clean, as it should be.
Big thanks to Café Monarch!
