LANSING, Mich. — The State of Michigan if offering a free app that can identify cyber attacks on their smartphones.
The Michigan Secure app is programmed to notify the user of suspicious transactions on their device, according to the State of Michigan.
“Our reliance on mobile devices has been met with a surge in activity by cybercriminals looking to access those devices to steal our personal information, and possibly much worse,” says State Chief Information Officer Brom Stibitz. “The Michigan Secure app is a huge step towards protecting Michiganders from these criminals and giving us all some peace of mind.”
Stibitz adds that the app does not require users to provide their personal information.
We’re told the app alerts users if their Wi-Fi has been compromised and scans other apps on Android devices for possible threats before those apps are downloaded.
