Report: University of Michigan is the top public university in the country

The University of Michigan was ranked the top public university in the country, according to a report from Niche.

The rankings considered academics, admissions, financial and student life data from the U.S. Department of Education for more than 500 public colleges and universities. Additional factors considered include campus grade, diversity, local area and safety.

According to the report, popular majors include Information Science, Business, and Research and Experimental Psychology. UM alumni reportedly go on to earn a starting salary of $49,800.

In the report, UCLA ranked second, the University of Virginia ranked third, West Point ranked fourth and Georgia Tech rounded out the top five.

Michigan State University came in 27th on the list.
