The new owners of a home on Wilson in Trenton found a skull inside a backyard fire pit and called police. Now two investigations are underway in Michigan and Tennessee.

The focus is on 57-year-old Mark Eberly who lived in the house for decades with his parents and then for three years after they passed away. He was their only child and had a woman living with him.

Trenton Public Safety Director Steve Voss tells 7 Action News the skull was fire damaged but intact and they may be able to make an identity from dental records. They are focused on the woman who lived in the house.

Eberly sold the house, and last month went to Tennessee where he got into two altercations with police. After being booked for resisting arrest and his mugshot taken, he later got into a shootout with police on June 27. He drove off and was found dead from either police gunshots or a self-inflicted gunshot.

Police also say he was seen there at a campsite with a woman. Is that a different woman?

Police say the woman who was living in Trenton has no immediate family.

The family who bought the house had renovations done before they moved in and nothing suspicious was found.
