The former site of the Pontiac Silverdome may become home to Amazon.
The online retailer presented a site plan to build on the 127-acre site during a special meeting of the Pontiac Planning Commission. If the $250 million development is built, it would create an estimated 1,500 full time jobs.
Wages would start at $15 an hour for both full and part time employees and would include benefits.
The Planning Commission approved the proposal. It now moves on to the full City Council.
The applicant for the warehouse and distribution and fulfillment campus was Seefried Properties, a Georgia based developer that has built properties for Amazon across the country. The company is under contract to purchase the site to build two facilities that would be leased bt Amazon.
City Council must now weigh the plan before and determine if will grant a special exemption permit for the site.
It's unclear when the final decision will be made. However, it is expected to make in a few months,
If it is approved, construction would begin immediately with a delivery station operational by the third quarter of 2020 and the fulfillment center operational by the third quarter of 2021.
