A Georgia man said he's been so worried about the welfare of his 3-year-old son that he hired a private investigator to follow the boy's mother here in Michigan.
What the private investigator found early Monday morning had him calling 911.
The mother left home with her son around 4 a.m. to go to work at a dialysis center in Oak Park. Once she arrived at work, she walked into the building, leaving her toddler alone in the car.
"I saw that the child was still in the vehicle, and at that point, I informed my client what was going on," said W. Assi of Omega Investigation Services who called 911. "I told him that law enforcement has to be involved because the child's safety is at risk and we need to do something as soon as possible."
Oak Park Police responded. Officers talked to the mother and notified Child Protective Services.
The father is upset that his son's mother was not taken into custody. He claims she violated a court order out of Georgia by taking their son out of state without giving him 60 days notice.
Police said they allowed the mother to take her son after they determined that there were no warrants out for her arrest.
The father said his child's mother cut off all communication months ago.
"Right now, no one knows where my son is," he said. "We don't know anything. She has isolated him completely."
