Police say two women who were caught on tape picking the pocket of an elderly man at a gas station turned themselves in Sunday.
Eighty-five-year-old Garnie Edwards was heartbroken over what happened to him at that Warren gas station.
On Wednesday afternoon, Mr. Edwards was at 10 Mile and Hoover to get gas. He says a young woman told him she loved his car.
Moments later, as he had his back turned, Mr. Edwards says she reached into his back pocket and took off with his wallet that had almost $800 in it.
"I'm yelling my head off, 'Somebody call the police! Somebody call the police! They got my wallet! They got my wallet'," he said.
Minutes before that all happened, Mr. Edwards says that young woman and another girl had followed him inside the gas station and made some small talk with him. They had pulled into the gas station in a red car with a man behind the wheel.
Mr. Edwards says after his wallet was stolen, the girl took the cash and ditched the wallet. Both young women took off running. Mr. Edwards says the guy driving the red car didn't leave right away.
He asked him what was going on.
"I said, 'Are you with these girls?' He said, 'No, I'm not with them. I was giving them a ride."
Mr. Edwards says he depends on his Social Security check money to pay his bills. Now that the money was stolen, he'll have to call make some calls to say his payments will be a little late.
He says he'll no longer carry so much cash with him.
"They might have taken advantage of me because of my age," says Mr. Edwards.
Warren police say they are looking to talk to the driver of that red car.
Mr. Edwards told us he hopes the girls learn a lesson.
"Get a job. Go to work. You're young people. Don't take from other people what belongs to other people."
