Police issue 440 tickets, arrest 9 during 6-hour Operation Ghost Rider in metro Detroit

(WXYZ) - At the end of April, Michigan State Police and several other local agencies conducted Operation Ghost Rider along M-59 in Macomb and Oakland counties to combat distracted driving.
According to the Transportation Improvement Association, 49 officers from the state, county and local agencies stopped 530 vehicles in just six hours. Of those 530, they issued 440 citations and arrested nine people.
The agencies included: Michigan State Police, Macomb County Sheriff's Office, Oakland County Sheriff's Office, Auburn Hills police, Clinton Township police, Shelby Township police, Sterling Heights police and Utica police.
The operation targeted the area of M-59 between Romeo Plank in Clinton Township and I-75 in Auburn Hills.
According to the TIA, they conducted 18 hours of enforcement in 2017. Officers conducted more than 907 traffic stops resulting in 726 citations and 34 arrests.
