The record-breaking temperatures have been freezing and breaking pipes all over town.
Action News reached out to the experts to get their advice on what to do now and ahead of the weekend's big thaw.
Don Prover says he and his co-workers at Birmingham Plumbing Heating & Cooling have been running non-stop since this brutal cold weather started.
"The last couple days have been so cold," Prover said. "Things just can't keep up. Pipes are freezing in areas they normally wouldn't."
So what should we be doing?
Prover says it's a good idea to go around the house and make sure all fixtures are working. You should also leave cabinet doors open and check crawl spaces, too.
"Make sure those windows are shut or insulated so cold air doesn't get in those spaces," Prover said.
He says the most important thing you can do is make sure everyone in the house knows where to find the master shut off for the water.
"As the temperatures start to rise, which they're gonna this weekend, pipes can thaw out and if they're broken you won't know it until they're spraying water," he sayd. "So make sure you know where shut off is and then call us because time matters."
