Pilot dies after plane crash in St. Clair County

An FAA spokesperson said the plane was a Cessna C340 aircraft. The pilot, who was killed and was the only person on the aircraft, had reported problems with the plane's right engine prior to losing radio communication with air traffic control.

The aircraft crashed a quarter mile south of the St. Clair County International Airport and was destroyed.

6:20 a.m.

One person has died in a plane crash in St. Clair County, according to the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office.

The crash occurred near a baseball field at Yager Road and Wadhams Road in Kimball Township, east of the St. Clair County International Airport.

It is currently not known what kind of aircraft was involved in the crash or how many people were on the aircraft.
