It’s another opportunity to say farewell to the Joe.
While the Red Wings have hung up their skates and have no more plans to play hockey at the historic stadium, there’s still an opportunity for fans to say goodbye Wednesday afternoon.
In celebration of the “Farewell Season at the Joe,” the Detroit Red Wings are holding an event called “Paint the Ice.”
Fans who have signed up online are being given a 30-minute time slot to paint their own personalized message on the ice. The time slots begin at 3 p.m. and go until 8 p.m. Paint and paintbrushes are provided at no additional cost, but it does take a minimum donation to obtain a time slot.
The minimum donation for adults and children ages 11 and older is $20 per person. Participants under 11 years old are $10 each, while children under 2 years old are free.
“As the Red Wings continue to prepare for the future at Little Caesars Arena and events at Joe Louis Arena wind down, fans have expressed overwhelming interest in making another lasting memory at The Joe,” said Kevin Brown, Director of Community Relations & Detroit Red Wings Foundation.
Painting on the ice will be handled on a first-come, first-serve basis throughout the event.
