P0THEAD, 2HOT4U among thousands of plates rejected by Michigan SOS

From extreme insults to flashy nicknames, thousands of Michiganders attempt to brand their vehicles with vanity license plates. But the Michigan Secretary of State has some restrictions as to how far a driver can go.

The Secretary of State provided 7 Action News with a list of 11,112 rejected license plates collected over time.

According to the Michigan Vehicle Code, state officials can reject plates that "might carry a connotation offensive to good taste and decency."

The specific restrictions include configurations that contain obscene language, illegal activities, sexual words or descriptions, alcohol, illegal substances, violence or disparaging or hateful comments.

A spokesperson said plates in question are discussed by email, and a committee of 4-5 employees decide what is deemed to be "in poor taste." Imagine that job!

Some of the requests are obscene and offensive -- others are downright bizarre. The Secretary of State rejected plates like V1AGRA, GH3TTO, SMRTAZZ and 0LDFART.
