A new bill in the Michigan Senate could allow Michiganders to have their driver's license on their phone. Senate Bill 454, introduced by Sen. Peter Lucido, a Republican representing parts of Macomb County, proposes that the Michigan Secretary of State's Office make driver's licenses available electronically.

According to the bill, the electronic license must include all information required to be included on a plastic license, and must include a QR code or similar technology to be scanned, giving the information from that license. A QR code is a machine-readable code that has black and white squares and stores information that can be read by a camera or smart phone.

The bill was introduced last month and referred to the Committee on Transpiration and Infrastructure.

According to KIMT3, last year , Louisiana passed a bill making them the first state with a digital driver's license.
