As the world fixates on Ukraine, lawmakers from Michigan are reacting to Russia's on-going invasion.
“I unequivocally condemn Russia’s further invasion of Ukraine – an appalling and illegal assault on a sovereign nation and democracy itself," said U.S. Senator Gary Peters in a statement. “My heart goes out to the people of Ukraine, who are victims of this unprovoked war, and I stand with the American people — including the more than 39,000 Michiganders of Ukrainian descent — in opposing this aggression.”

U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow also issued a statement, saying, “I share the horror of the many Ukrainian-Americans in Michigan of this brutal, unprovoked, and unjustified attack by President Putin on the people of Ukraine. America will stand strong with all of our allies to do everything we can to protect their freedom and independence and save lives.”
Peter Meijer, U.S. Representative for Michigan's 3rd District called on President Biden to take stronger steps against Russia's aggression. “America’s strength is only valuable if the world’s bad actors believe we will use that strength to defend ourselves and our allies. I am calling on the Biden Administration to end the half measures and unleash crippling sanctions that will crush Vladimir Putin and his corrupt cronies."

“A weak America emboldens dictators like Putin to threaten our allies. We cannot afford to be tepid or weak-willed in our approach, and we must take action to economically isolate and devastate the Russian regime. If we fail to do so, we will see the chaos Putin is unleashing in Ukraine spread throughout Europe, and it will also embolden tyrants in China, North Korea, and Iran.”
