LANSING, Mich. — Due to the growing and uncertain spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak LCC is extending spring break for students through Tuesday, March 17. Faculty and staff should report as scheduled.

When the college resumes Wednesday, March 18, all classes that do not require hands-on learning as an essential component of instruction will be taught online through the end of the spring semester Monday, May 11.

“The risk of having hundreds of people in close proximity is too great, LCC President Brent Knight said. “Our first priority is the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff. We must take every precaution to slow the spread of the virus.”

The college remains in contact with Ingham County Health Department and the state of Michigan Emergency Operations Center, and is following the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Our emergency planning preparedness team will continue to meet on a regular basis to re-evaluate the needs of our college community and ensure our students can continue their coursework.

All college-sponsored travel is canceled with limited exceptions for local travel to small events. The college is canceling all events with more than 100 people.

All LCC employees and students should monitor their college email and lcc.edu/about/coronavirus for updates.

Students are asked to view the website to ensure they understand which classes are being taught online. If their course does not appear on that list, it WILL be moving to online-only instruction. In addition, all Aviation Technology courses will continue to meet in person, according to their original schedule.

The college will make every effort to enable a successful transition to online instruction for those courses which can be taught online.
