DENVER – A fireball that streaked across the sky in the Denver area Thursday night was likely a meteor.

The American Meteor Society received dozens of fireball reports in Colorado between 7:50 p.m. and 8 p.m. local time.

Danny Ginther captured video of the fireball on his home security camera, which he said is facing east from his home in Aurora. A timestamp on the video shows the time as 7:49 p.m.

Greg Kramer happened to be recording video of the holiday light show at Denver Botanic Gardens when the fireball streaked overhead.

According to the Denver Astronomical Society, the fireball was most likely a meteor from the Geminid meteor shower, but that hasn’t yet been confirmed.

The meteor shower reached peak intensity late Wednesday and early Thursday.
