Could women ever become priests?
Pope Francis said women being ordained is not likely, according to the Catholic News Service. Pope Francis was speaking after meeting with Archbishop Antje Jackelen of the Lutheran Church. She is Sweden's first woman primate.
The pope cited St. John Paul II, who believed that because the Bible shows Jesus only chose men as apostles that the ordination of women in the Catholic Church is not possible, according to the Catholic News Service.
“If one carefully reads the declaration of St. John Paul it goes in that direction, yes,” he said according to the Catholic News Service.
