If there's one expense that we've always got to pay, whether we like it or not, it's the gas bill. But there are ways we could all be spending less at the pump. Let Jimmy Rhoades and Petroleum Analyst Allison Mac give you some roadside assistance with the 3 best ways you can fill up without emptying out your wallet.
1. Price Comparison Apps
Unless you have, literally, all the time in the world, you can't keep track of all the changes gas prices go through over the course of a couple of weeks, so get an app that can do it for you! Apps and sites like GasBuddy and FuelFinder crowdsource data on gas prices in your area and is always updating prices to their most current, helping alert you to the cheapest gas near you at any time.
The other great thing about apps like these is if you go on a road trip, you can still see where the cheapest gas is anywhere on your route, keeping more cash in your wallet and keeping you on the road.
2. Loyalty Programs
If you think grocery stores are just trying to get your business when they offer fuel points, you're right, but they're also offering super savings. You can get anywhere from 10 to even 90 cents off per gallon - just by shopping!
The next time you're at the grocery store, be sure to ask about the store's gas station partnerships. Soon, you might be begging your significant other to let you run to the store to pick up milk, and savings.
3. Pre-Purchase Programs
Some services can help you pay the same prices for your gas all year, no matter how much prices increase. TankWallet and MyGallons are services that let you pay a flat membership fee and lock in today's gas prices for your future gas purchases.
