Police in Austin, Texas say one suspect is in custody and another is at large after 14 people were injured in a mass shooting at a downtown nightlife district early Saturday morning.

Austin Interim Police Chief Joseph Chacon said that two patients are currently in critical condition during a briefing Saturday afternoon, according to KXAN-TV and KVUE-TV in Austin. All other patients are stable, and no one has died in connection with the shooting.

According to the Austin American-Statesman, the attack took place just before 1:30 a.m. local time in downtown Austin at the city's Sixth Street entertainment district. The newspaper reports that the district had recently returned to "pre-pandemic" capacity, meaning thousands of people were in the area at the time.

The Austin Police Department confirmed Saturday afternoon that one suspect is in custody in connection with the shooting, and another suspect was still at large. A description for the second suspect was not immediately available.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear, though KXAN reports that most victims appear to be innocent bystanders.
