More colleges in West Michigan are taking steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by suspending in-person classes.

Aquinas College and Davenport University both announced Thursday face-to-face classes will be moved to online versions.

Aquinas is extending spring break through March 20 and asking students to remain away from campus during that time. Students can return from March 15-18 to prepare to leave for an extended period.

The school’s Office of Residence Life will provide more details to students.

Online courses are expected to last at least through April 24.

At Davenport, in-person classes are canceled starting at 5 p.m. Thursday through Monday. On Tuesday, classes will resume in online and alternative formats until the end of the semester.

The school will remain open and all other services will be available.

On Wednesday, several other schools canceled face-to-face teaching and asked students to leave residential halls.

Updates for students and parents can be found on each school’s website.
