A mother has been charged with two counts of second-degree child abuse after her children were found alone in a motel room on Tuesday.
Michele Penick, 24, is accused of leaving them in a motel in the 20000 block of James Couzens Freeway in Detroit.
While Detroit police officers were investigating a shooting that occurred in front of the hotel, they observed a bullet hole in the window of a motel room.
When officers did a well-being check of the room, the children were discovered unsupervised.
They were placed with Child Protective Services while Penick was arrested later on the same day.
