With many people exercising at home, one local chiropractor said he is seeing more overuse injuries lately.

Overuse injuries happen when our muscles, bones, ligaments and tendons go through repetitive stress.

Those injuries are showing up in Doctor Reid Meador's office, Chiropractic Unlimited, in the form of back pain, as well as leg and wrist sprains.

He said one reason why is that people aren't taking the time to warm up, stretch or hydrate at home before a workout like they would when they're in a gym or a fitness class. And, that can cause problems over time.

"I think one of the biggest things right now is people are just finding videos online and, maybe they find one they like, all of a sudden they're doing that four or five times a week," explained Dr. Meador.

"It's kind of the same movements over and over which, again, goes back to that overuse injury portion of it. So I'd say find three or four different workouts that are working different parts of the body, and try to do those so that those other parts of the body get that rest and recovery that they need."

That pain can even show up as many people are working from home right now.

Doctor Meador said it's crucial to have a proper work space that allows people to sit up straight and keep the shoulders back to prevent stress on the hip, neck and back.
