As Hurricane Florence's wrath begins its assault on the east coast, one Michigan woman is out of its path, but at the expense of her wedding.

Fifteen months worth of wedding planning – flowers, a photographer and the venue for the destination wedding of her dreams at Myrtle Beach, just for all of these plans to be canceled just days before the ceremony.

For Tondalaya Haywood, of Ann Arbor, this weekend in South Carolina was supposed to be a full circle journey on the shoreline of Myrtle Beach to get married where she said yes just 15 months prior.

"I did not know that I was going to get engaged," Haywood said. "He proposed to me with this little message in a bottle."

The couple found out last week that a hurricane was brewing off the coast of the Carolinas. A few days before they were set to leave, they learned of the evacuation order.

"Oh, God, it's over," Haywood recalled thinking.

The wedding was canceled for the couple and their 45 guests planning to attend from all over the country.

With Florence bearing down, Haywood made it clear that her foiled plans are nothing compared to those whose are in harms way.

"Our hearts are set on going as soon as the storm moves through and passes and is clear to go," Haywood said. "We’re going to go. We’re still going to be there if its just Anthony and I and the sand."
