Four people lost their lives in three separate traffic crashes during the 2018 Fourth of July holiday, according to preliminary reports from Michigan State Police.
Three out of the four fatalities were pedestrians.
Last year, 14 people lost their lives in 14 separate crashes during the four-day Fourth of July holiday weekend.
MSP says of the three deadly crashes, three victims were pedestrians, restraint use was unknown in one of the crashes and alcohol use does not seem to be a factor in any of them.
"We continue to urge motorists to be aware of your surroundings at all times, and give both pedestrians and bicyclists plenty of room on the roadways," said Jim Flegel, MSP traffic safety specialist.
