A new report from State Farm ranks Michigan sixth in the country for the number of dog bite insurance claims.
The insurance company says -- in 2016 -- it paid out $4.4 million for 167 dog bite claims. The number was up about 33 percent from the year before.
Researchers say about 50 percent of the victims of dog bites are children. The company says, most of the time, dog bites happen because dogs are scared or startled, not because they're vicious.
