The rules are changing in one Michigan city when it comes to having your phone in the car.
Battle Creek City Commissioners passed a new ordinance Tuesday banning drivers from handling a cell phone while a vehicle is in motion. This will allow local police officers to stop any drivers they see with a phone in their hands.
Under the new rule, drivers can still use a GPS and talk into a mounted phone, as long as they are not physically using it behind the wheel.
Violators will be hit with a $100 fine for the first offense and a $200 fine after that.
The new ordinance goes into effect on the Feb. 15.
