A Rochester Hills man has been arraigned on animal cruelty charges relating to a deadly hammer attack on a kitten.
David Hu, 33, is charged with killing/torturing an animal, which is a 4-year felony.
"He had Oreo in one hand and a hammer in the other," said William Lau about the horrifying moment he realized the pounding he heard from the other room was his roommate killing his kitten in their Rochester Hills home.
Lau says he tried to get his roommate to give him Oreo and calm down, but Hurefused.
After about ten minutes of pleading, Lau says his roommate started to hit the kitten again and that's when he fled their home and called 911.
When Oakland County Sheriff deputies arrived, they found Lau's roommate sitting in his bedroom with the bloody hammer and the dead kitten.
He remains under arrest pending charges.
"There is nothing that can provoke an attack with a hammer on an innocent animal. This is disturbing and disgusting on every level. And we're going to seek, obviously, the maximum charges against this guy. If he can do this to a defenseless animal, then he can do this to any thing or anyone," said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard.
Hu was given a $100,000 cash bond.
