Metro Detroit ER doctor warns about dangers of lawn mowing with kids

They're powerful machines that should be taken seriously, especially around kids. 
 
That’s the message ER Doctor Brad Uren wants to send to parents as lawn mowing season kicks into high gear. 
 
It all comes in the wake of yet another tragic accident that happened on Monday, in which a two year old was hit by a lawn mower at his South Lyon home --  sustaining significant injuries to his lower extremities. 
 
Uren says these kinds of accidents unfortunately happen more than people realize. And that's why he says education is key. He says people operating it should know how to do it. They should make sure to clear any kind of debris before the lawn mowing begins, and keep children indoors when it's underway. 
 
The American Academy of Pediatrics says more than 17 thousand children and teens are treated for lawn mowing injuries each year.
