Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan will hold a rally to show his support for the passage of an education bill package that's still working its way through Lansing.
He'll be joined by leaders from Detroit's charter schools and people in the community to show on-going support for the Detroit Education Commission.
It's the main bone of contention between the Michigan House and Senate as they continue to come to a compromise on an education funding package for Detroit Public Schools.
The commission would be appointed by Mayor Duggan and would have the authority to OK the openings of new schools, public or charter.
Another issue plaguing the passage of a funding bill is money.
Governor Snyder and the Senate want an estimated $200-million to off-set costs related to creating a new district and building improvements.
The House only offering up $33-million which supporters say isn't enough.
Lawmakers will be in Lansing today working out a possible deal.
