Police are investigating after a man was shot in the butt while driving on a metro Detroit freeway. It all started with what the victim said were gang signs.

A 19-year-old from White Lake was sitting in the front passenger seat around 2:30 a.m. Sunday when another driver began waving gang signs at them.

It happened on I-96 through Livonia.

The other men waved back and laughed, but moments later, a suspect rolled down his window and opened fire. That's when the 19-year-old realized he'd been shot in the butt.

They drove him to St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia but not before seeing the shooter exit at Farmington Rd.

There isn't much of a suspect description, only a black male in his mid 30s with light complexion, a thin beard and mustache.
