HOUGHTON LAKE, Mich. — A Michigan man has been arrested for allegedly setting up booby traps to harm Michigan State Police troopers.
MSP's Houghton Lake Post was contacted on Jan. 19 to investigate a fraud complaint in Ogemaw County. The victim said her credit card was used to purchase more than $1,500 worth of items from Walmart in West Branch.
The suspect, identified as 67-year-old Roger Allan Broadstone, refused to come out of his residence to speak to troopers. Police say he spoke with them through an open window and said they would need a search warrant to come inside and speak with him.
Troopers obtained a search warrant and made entry. Police say Broadstone had barricaded himself inside the house. After entry, troopers had found that Broadstone allegedly set up a booby trap and made other preparations to harm troopers.
He has been arraigned on the following charges:
- Five counts Attempted Murder
- One count Disarming Police Officer Non-Firearm
- One count Attempt to Disarm Police Officer Firearm
- Four counts Assault/Resisting and Obstructing Police
- One count Assault/Resisting and Obstructing Police Causing Injury
- One count Placing Offensive Substance with Intent to Injure
- One count Arson Preparation to Burn a Dwelling
- One count Weapons – Ammunition Possession by Felon
- One count Malicious Destruction of Police Property
His bond was set at $1,125,000.
