The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office is reminding drivers not to let their frayed nerves get the best of them while driving through construction zones on M-59.
Any driver who cuts through a privately-owned parking lot, driveway or business to get around traffic could face a $125 fine. It’s called the Private Drive to Disregard a Traffic Control Device, and plainly speaking – it could cost you a lot more than the few minutes you may have saved.
The traffic enforcement has always been in place, but Sheriff’s Deputies say they will be “strictly” enforcing it.
Clogged traffic on M-59 isn’t expected to let up until the end of 2018. That’s when phase one of a massive, $60 million reconstruction project is expected to be completed.
Road work is being done from Van Dyke to Garfield roads and goes through five communities.
