LANSING, Mich. — Potter Park Zoo is welcoming a cutie called 'Doofah.'

Doofah is a male red panda that was born in a Syracuse zoo on June 21, 2918.

He is being welcomed to Potter Park Zoo in hopes for successful breeding in 2020.

The Special Survival Plan (SSP) of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums recommended Doofah meet Maliha, Potter Park Zoo's female red panda, and mate.

"The mission of the SSP is to maintain healthy and genetically diverse populations of animals living within the 236 AZA accredited zoos and to enhance conservation of this species in the wild."

Potter Park Zoo had a male red panda who was transferred to a zoo in Pueblo, Colorado, based on the SSP to pair with their female.

The zoo reports that red panda are native to Asia, from Nepal to the Sichuan province in China and are currently endangered.
