LANSING, Mich. — A young girl is recovering after being rescued in the Straights of Mackinac.
The Petoskey News reports that a Star Line Ferry Crew rescued the 4-year-old after she drifted away from Mackinac City Beach on an inner tube.
Authorities say they were called to the scene just before 3 p.m. Monday.
That's when crew members on the ferry heard about the child and decided to assist with the rescue.
Mike North, a captain for Star Line says that the ferry Joliet was docked in Mackinaw City to load passengers when they learned the girl was adrift.
He, another captain and other crew members went out and rescued the girl.
The girl was found about a quarter mile off shore.
Star Line's CEO is praising the efforts of the crew members who helped rescue the girl.
North said the girl was OK, just "a little scared, and a little cold."
