You can text 911 in Clinton County if you are a Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, or AT&T customer.
Text-to-911 lets you send a text message to 911 for emergency help when you're not able to make a 911 voice call.
It's meant to be used in specific emergencies. Specifically for people who are speech or hearing impaired, and for people who are otherwise unable to call 911.
It could be used during a home invasion, or active shooter situation where speaking might give away the location of a person hiding. Or in domestic violence situations where it's not safe to make a voice call.
Text-to-911 is for emergencies only, and should only be used when calling is not an option. It might take slightly longer to dispatch emergency services in a text-to-911 situation.
It's important to give officers your location, the nature of the emergency, and the help needed in the first text you send. Avoid using abbreviations, or slang, and be as clear as possible.
If Text-to-911 is not working you will get a message back that says: Texting to 9-1-1 is not available and a voice call should be utilized.
