We have an update to the massive fire last week at Meridian Magnesium Products of America plant in Eaton Rapids.

FOX 47's Alani Letang is the first reporter to get the status update from the auto parts supplier.

First and foremost plant manager George Asher told Letang he just wants to take care of his employees.

Tuesday he told Letang what he's doing to get the plant back open as soon as possible.

Asher said his number one goal is to recall as many employees back to work as soon as possible.

As of Tuesday, the Eaton Rapids city fire chief told us that it is still too dangerous to begin the investigation, and the cause of the fire remains undetermined.

Power has been established to plant four and some employees have been recalled back to work on some machining, assembly and paint operations.

Power to plant two has been established but Asher said there is no work in there yet.

According to the statement the fire marshall has allowed access to the main facility for clean up and repair operations.

In addition, the company will be providing medical care benefits to emploees and their families for the next 30 days.

Belfor, a property restoration company has been hired. Asher told Letang that some of the Meridian employees will be working with them on those clean up efforts.

Lastly Meridian Magnesium will be considering recalling some employees to do charity work in the community as a thank you and to help supports those in need.

There will be a meeting Thursday to update the employees on where things stand.
