GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — Firefighters used harnesses and ropes to safely lower two workers six stories to the ground after they became stuck in an elevator lift outside Grand Rapids City Hall.
Battalion Chief David Noorman says the two workers were stuck in the lift for about 45 minutes Thursday after its emergency brake engaged. The Grand Rapids Press reports the men declined to be identified.
Noorman says one firefighter first was lowered in a basket to the lift to help the workers, who then were placed in harnesses and lowered to the ground, one by one.
No one was injured.
Other workers clapped when both men were safely on the ground.
The two men were working on a project to replace components in the building's heating, ventilation and air conditioning system.
