A food-services worker at a state prison in Jackson County has been fired and could face criminal charges after she was caught having sex with an inmate Wednesday night.
Corrections Department spokesman Chris Gautz tells us the woman was an employee of Trinity Services Group. She was caught with the inmate at the Charles Egeler Reception and Guidance Center just before 7PM. She was escorted from the facility and State Police were notified.
Trinity has been contracted by the Snyder administration to provide food services at corrections facilities around the state. Trinity replaced Aramark, which ended its state contract early after dozens of incidents of unauthorized meal substitutions and inappropriate worker contact with inmates.
Governor Rick Snyder led the push to privatize in order to save tax dollars over the objections of the Michigan Corrections Organization, the union that represents prison staff. Trinity has been hit with many of the same complaints. A worker at the Ionia Correctional Facility was fired a year ago after he was accused of selling heroin and methamphetamine inside the facility. Around a thousand inmates at the Kinross Correctional Facility in the Upper Peninsula staged a peaceful protest over food quality in March of 2015.
