Lansing, Mich (WSYM) -- One Lansing woman's wheelchair ramp was falling apart, but thanks to a couple of volunteers, she's getting a new one.
Carla is a 55 year-old double amputee due to type 1 diabetes.
Habitat for Humanity is replacing her old ramp, and in return, she offered to help Habitat for Humanity in anyway possible.
As of late, she's just been staying in the house earning her masters degree online for instructional design.
She is doing this so she can work from home to increase her family's income.
"I was worried about sliding right through the boards at times because they moved so much when people walked down on them or when I rolled on them. I just wasn't able to get back up the ramp by myself. I had to have help, so that was not really good because I needed to be able to get in and out of my house myself," Ashley said.
She is also encouraging her 19 year-old son James to get into construction. She said Habitat for Humanity is a good start, and that this ramp serves as a good example of teaching him the importance of giving back.
