A Jackson woman was charged Monday in connection with the death of a young boy.
Amber Reeves, 24, was arraigned on manslaughter and second-degree child abuse charges.
She now is in jail on a $300,000 bond.
Prosecutors say 14-month-old Logan Tracy died on Oct. 11. The official cause of death was blunt-force trauma to the abdomen. Prosecutors allege Reeves beat the boy because she was angry at his father, who she was dating at the time.
"Based on her statements in particular that she was angry and frustrated that she was left to care for these children and that's what led to this, we don't think she should be taking care of any children, even her own, at this time," said Kelsey McKinnie, assistant prosecutor.
Judge Michael Klaeren ordered that she not have any contact with children under 14 years old.
While Reeves has a clean criminal record, prosecutors say she previously pleaded guilty to fourth-degree child abuse but the charge was dismissed by the court after she completed probation.
Reeves is facing 15 years behind bars and a $7,500 fine.
Reeves is due back in court on Nov. 14.
