JACKSON, Mich. — On Monday, Jackson Prosecutor Jerry Jarzynka reported that a woman was charged in the hit and run death of a local man.
Cari Jo Thompson has been charged with the death of 64-year-old, Steven Georgopoulos, with a penalty up to 15 years in jail.
Charge is for failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death.
The accident happened on April 10, 2019 in Blackman Township.
Georgopolous’s body was found in the early morning on the side of North Elm Street.
Police say based on the debris left at the scene, it was determined he was hit by a vehicle that left the area.
A few hours later, an officer responding to an unrelated call, found a van matching the parts.
The van in question was impounded.
Police are waiting for blood tests results to come back from the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.
Judge Mazur has set a $5000 bond for Thompson.
The preliminary examination is scheduled before Judge Daniel Goostrey for July 11 at 9:30 a.m.
