Winter storm warning issued for Upper Peninsula

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for parts of the Upper Peninsula.

The warning goes into affect from 4pm Wednesday afternoon until 7am Friday in Keweenaw & northern Houghton counties.

Heavy lake effect snow expected. Plan on difficult travel conditions beginning as early as this evening. Expect total snow accumulations of 7 to 10 inches, with localized amounts up to 12 inches over the higher terrain.

The National Weather Service has also issued a winter weather advisory for Chippewa & Mackinac counties starting at 2am Thursday through 7am Friday. Other parts of northern Lower Michigan are also included in this advisory.

Plan on slippery road conditions on Thursday. In addition, some reductions to visibility are expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches, with localized amounts up to 7 inches, are expected.
